SAN AGUSTIN / GALLINAS RIVER VALLEY / 2022

We meet near Garcia Tires, south of Las Vegas, carpool as feasible, and make a spectacular descent in caravan on nine miles of good gravel road into the valley. The views are long and dramatic. The village is stone, much of it in ruin. 

After the church visit and a short talk we have a picnic lunch under a ramada at the site (please bring your own lunch). 

NUEVO MEXICO PROFUNDO restored this church in 2019 in collaboration with the Thaw Charitable Trust, Cornerstones Community Partnerships, private donors, and Our Lady of Sorrows parish. 

Presuming road conditions are suitable, we also drive an additional ten minutes on a dirt road to visit another church, La Concepción, going to ruin deeper in the valley. Visits at both churches are limited to the exterior.
