HISTORIC CHURCHES OF LA PUEBLA & SANTA CRUZ

We meet at 9:45 in the parking lot of Holy Family Parish in Chimayó and drive in caravan (in your own car) to see the newly and beautifully restored Santo Niño in La Puebla, where we also see a José Rafael Aragón altar screen conserved during a 2025 Profundo project. Presentations are first by the mayordomos and restorers and then by master santero Felix López, regarding his conservation work on the altar screen.

Thereafter we visit one of the most exceptional and historically important churches in New Mexico, La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada (also known as Holy Cross). Camilla Trujillo offers a short history of the church and subsequently Felix López explains the santero artwork conservation that he did here as well. The visit ends by 1:00.
